Course Description

Want to learn more about plants?


This training course is ideal for people working with animals who are wanting a better understanding of horticulture. This course will provide information and skills that can be used in animal work situations. This course is offered face to face over 8 x nights with a 1 x day workshop or online over 8 x nights with a 1 x day workshop.

This basic introduction course will cover the following topics


  •  Plant Identification Part 1 and 2
  • How plants work
  • Plant care, maintenance, water and fertilise plants
  • Maintain nursery plants
  • Plant pests, disease and management
  • Toxic plants to animals
  • Establishing and maintain a Plantation
  • Field Excursion to a Plantation and Plant nursery
  • Plant application in the workplace, community and conservation projects

There are no pre-requisites

Course requirements:

Age level entry age 12 and above. People under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Solid footwear. Long trousers and long sleeve shirt.

Course Commencement and Confirmation

Course fees must be paid before participation. The running of this course is subject to achieving a minimum of 15 participants face to face and 10 participants online.


There are no concessions available.

Refunds and Cancellations

Cancellations advised in writing more than 7 days prior to the commencement of the course are eligible for a full refund. For cancellations advised within 7 days of the course, no refunds are made, but substitute delegate may attend.
